The all-new 2014 BMW 2 Series Coupe

There is clear water between the BMW 2-Series Coupe and the BMW 1-Series, the new model assuming a character all of its own. The BMW 2-Series Coupe is an even more eye-catching creation than its predecessor, the resoundingly successful BMW 1-Series Coupe (of which more than 150,000 units have been sold worldwide).

Characteristic features of a BMW Coupe

The specific proportions of the BMW 2-Series Coupe are contained within a body measuring 4,432 millimetres in length. The two-door model is therefore 108 millimetres longer than the BMW 1-Series and 72 millimetres longer than the outgoing BMW 1-Series Coupe. Added to which, the BMW 2-Series Coupe also boasts more efficient aerodynamics than both the BMW 1-Series and its predecessor, as reflected in a Cd of 0.29 for the BMW 220i Coupe.

The BMW 2-Series Coupe builds on the brand's tradition of compact models offering a satisfying degree of driver engagement. An instantly beguiling blend of sporting prowess and elegance marks out the design of BMW Coupes. Sporting presence, muscular agility and assured elegance come together in the exterior design of the BMW 2-Series Coupe. Classical BMW features and a fresh interpretation of traditional Coupe elements

The individual vehicle concept of the BMW 2-Series Coupe is underlined by its specific front and rear end design, dynamically stretched lines and an almost 11-centimetre increase in body length over the BMW 1-Series. Lines tapering down dynamically towards the BMW kidney grille lend the front end of the BMW 2-Series Coupe a forward-surging presence. This reduces turbulence and further enhances the outstanding aerodynamics of the BMW 2-Series Coupe.

If the BMW 2-Series Coupe is fitted with an optional navigation system or the BMW Professional radio, it will also feature the BMW iDrive operating system, which includes a freestanding onboard monitor in flatscreen design. Serving the cause of individual style: BMW Sport Line, BMW Modern Line and the M Sport package

The BMW Lines - available as an alternative to standard specification for the BMW 2-Series Coupe - offer harmoniously coordinated exterior and interior design and equipment features. BMW TwinPower Turbo technology ensures an unbeatable balance between driving pleasure and fuel economy in both the petrol and the diesel engines available from launch for the BMW 2-Series Coupe. One four-cylinder petrol engine and one four-cylinder diesel unit are available from launch, putting 135 kW/184 hp at the disposal of the BMW 220i Coupe and BMW 220d Coupe. BMW 220i Coupe: efficient power from 2.0-litre displacement

The engine powering the BMW 220i Coupe sources significantly higher output from its 2.0-litre displacement than the four-cylinder petrol units available for the BMW 1-Series range. BMW 220d Coupe: high on torque, low in emissions

Customers can order their BMW 220d Coupe from launch with a BMW M Performance Power Kit from the Original BMW Accessories range. BMW 218d Coupe: economical diesel entry model

BMW 225d Coupe: sporty and efficient thanks to multi-stage turbocharging

The BMW 225d Coupe is fitted with 17-inch light-alloy wheels as standard. The BMW 2-Series Coupe also includes a number of innovative pedestrian protection measures.

The boot of the BMW 2-Series Coupe has grown by 20 litres and now offers 390 litres of capacity. If specified with the BMW Professional radio (standard in the BMW M235i Coupe) or a navigation system, the car will also be fitted with the iDrive operating system. BMW ConnectedDrive in the BMW 2-Series Coupe: Connectivity with added variety

The range of BMW ConnectedDrive features available for the BMW 2-Series Coupe includes a rain sensor with automatic headlight activation.

The all-new 2014 BMW 2 Series embodies this less-is-more trend, as it's the smallest coupe in BMW's 2014 lineup. Inside, the BMW 2 Series is every bit as appealing as the larger 4 Series, thanks to a functional, attractive design and high-quality materials. Initially, BMW will offer the 2 Series in two distinct flavors. The base 228i coupe has a strong, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that deftly balances performance and fuel economy. Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2014 BMW 2 Series is a two-door coupe with seating for four. The 228i comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, automatic dual-zone climate control, leatherette (premium vinyl) upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, eight-way manual front seats, and a 60/40-split-folding rear seat. Inside, you'll find 10-way power front sport seats (with driver memory functions), upgraded interior trim and a racier looking M Sport steering wheel.

The M Sport package adds 18-inch wheels, summer performance tires, a rear spoiler, sport front seats and an M Sport steering wheel. The Dynamic Handling package (which requires the M Sport package) adds the adaptive suspension dampers and the upgraded steering and brakes.

The Driver Assistance Plus package requires the Driver Assistance and Technology packages and adds a lane departure warning system and a forward collision warning/mitigation system with pedestrian detection. Powertrains and Performance

The rear-wheel-drive 2014 BMW 2 Series offers a choice of two engines. The EPA estimates 25 mpg combined (22 mpg city/32 mpg highway).

All 2 Series coupes have an automatic stop-start function, which shuts off the engine when you're stopped to save fuel. Automatic-transmission-equipped cars also have a launch control feature.
Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2014 BMW 2 Series includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes (with brake drying and standby feature), traction and stability control and hill-start assist for manual-equipped cars. Front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and driver/passenger knee airbags are also standard.

Even though the 2 Series is longer, wider and taller than the 1 Series it replaces, it is still a compact coupe. Driving Impressions

The 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe's selectable drive modes, coupled with its available adaptive suspension, make for a very smooth ride, whether you're driving over the most pitted city streets, flat highway stretches or winding mountain passes. Even without the Dynamic Handling package, acceleration, braking and handling all combine to make the 2014 BMW 228i an inspiring performer.
