SPECIAL EDITION FORD GT COMPETITION SERIES: THE ‘LIGHTWEIGHT’ SUPERCAR DESIGNED FOR HARDCORE TRACK ENTHUSIASTS

When a car is really as limited and in-demand because Ford GT, you may think there's little need or room for special editions - all is fairly damn special. But that hasn't proven the way it is in Dearborn. Last year, Ford celebrated Le Mans triumphs of the past together with the '66 Heritage Edition and this also year it's calling competitors on smaller stages while using new Competition Series. The track-focused GT drops weight and lowers center of gravity with assistance from a serious dose of carbon fibre as well as other lightweight materials.

Ford has officially unveiled a fresh flavor from the Ford GT supercar and it's also known as the Ford GT Competition Series. The car specializes in weigh savings for serious track enthusiasts. The special model has graphite racing stripes, a-pillars, and side mirrors. It also features an unique Perspex acrylic engine hatch and bulkhead Gorilla Glass.

The Ford GT has racing in their blood,” Raj Nair, Ford executive vp, global product, and chief technical officer, said. The Competition Series got its start most abundant in hardcore track enthusiasts under consideration, providing a tailored group of lightweight features and unique livery to complement.”

Update: Shortly after this informative article was originally published on February 23rd at 2:40PM, a Ford representative contacted Road & Track with a few clarification. The 3054-lb dry weight that Ford revealed way back in January was measured using a Competition Series car, which means that it is not necessarily a "lightweight exclusive edition." The package may be available since GT production began, and deciding on the option will never build your GT any lighter as opposed to 3054-lb. dry weight we reported recently.

The two-seat GT is powered by way of a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 making 647 horsepower that pairs having a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GT is rear-wheel-drive which has a mid-engine layout and possesses an EPA-rated fuel economy of 11 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. With a top speed of 216 mph, Ford claims the GT may be the fastest production Ford of all time.
